Forever families
Some children cannot go home. For them, adoption is not a second chance at family. It is the first real one. Wolverine walks with you from licensing through finalization and beyond.

Most adoptions begin with foster care. A child is placed in your home while their parents work on a reunification plan. When a court terminates parental rights, the foster family is usually the first family asked to adopt.
If you are primarily interested in adopting a healthy newborn, tell us on your inquiry and our adoption team will contact you directly about that path.
Adoptive licensing averages 9 to 12 months. The requirements are the same as foster licensing, plus an adoption-specific assessment.
Children waiting now
Wolverine has children and sibling groups whose rights have been terminated and who are waiting for a permanent family. Our team shares profiles with licensed and in-process families, because a child’s photo and story deserve more privacy than a public web page can offer.
Michigan’s statewide photo listing is the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange, and Wolverine caseworkers can help you navigate it.
Already licensed elsewhere? Families licensed by another Michigan agency can still adopt a Wolverine child. Call (888) 625-8669.

Adoption support does not end at the courthouse. Families keep access to Wolverine’s care provider support groups, the Piggy Bank Project, and our team’s help with subsidies, medical coverage, and school transitions.
Alumni of Wolverine programs, including adopted children, are eligible for the Alumni Opportunity scholarships when they graduate.
